This post was originally a series of tweets on 7/9/2014. I’m repackaging and expanding on them for posterity.
This topic started life as something I saw on Joystiq, but I’m adopting the format of Kotaku’s The Bests series. As needed, I’ll update this post every year as great new games take a spot on the list or the steady march of times pushes old ones off. In no particular order, here are my top 10 games from the past decade.
Crawl (2014, PC)
Superhot (2016, Xbox One)
Rocket League (2016, Xbox One)
Inside (2016, Xbox One)
Halo Master Chief Collection (2014, Xbox One)
Forza Horizon 3 (2016, Xbox One)
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt (2015, Xbox One)
BioShock: The Collection (2016, Xbox One)
TowerFall: Ascension (2018, Xbox One)
Into the Breach (2018, Nintendo Switch)
Update for the start of 2019– Orange Box, Left 4 Dead, Rock Band, and Puzzle Quest age off the list. They are replaced by The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, BioShock: The Collection (thanks, remasters!), TowerFall, and Into the Breach.
Update for the start of 2017– Wii Sports ages off the list. Bioshock and Braid are gone. They are replaced by Rocket League, Inside, and Superhot. Forza Horizon 3 supersedes Forza Horizon 2.
Update for the start of 2015– World of Warcraft ages off the list, replaced by Crawl. Forza Horizon 2 supersedes Forza Horizon. Master Chief Collection supersedes Halo 3.
