Farmers Market Salad with Peaches, Raspberries and Kohlrabi

July 15, 2012

We’ve had a string of nice days lately. So nice, it actually feels like it might be summer.

I know.

What the what?!

Now that summer really and truly exists, we are shopping much more heavily at our local farmers market. I feel especially lucky to live so close to the market and really love to take advantage of the fresh, seasonal offerings.

It’s also fun when you run into produce you don’t immediately recognize.

Oh, hey there, Kohlrabi.

I had no idea what the heck it was.

Upon my first examination, it was bright and beautifully green with huge floppy leaves. I had heard of kohlrabi but had never catalogued it in my brain. I do, however, remember that my mom really, really likes them.

So, what does a kohlrabi taste like?

Almond and cabbage’s love child—that’s what.

After taking in my haul, the only logical next step was to make a big salad loaded with fruit.

And that’s what I did.

Farmers Market Salad with Peaches, Raspberries and Kohlrabi

1 head of lettuce, cut into bite sized pieces

1 peach, sliced into wedges

1 handful of raspberries

1 kohlrabi, pealed and sliced into matchsticks

Sprinkling of almond slices

Balsamic vinegar

It’s simple. Combine the above ingredients according to your liking and devour.
