Grownup Grilled Cheese: Apple, Prosciutto, Goat Cheese and Sharp Cheddar

July 19, 2012

Ok, ya’ll.

Confession: Grilled cheese sandwiches are my favorite.

Absolute favorite.

There is something so insanely wonderful about buttery toasted bread with melted, gooey cheese.

Oh man.

As a kid, grilled cheese was always my go-to. As an adult, honestly, things haven’t changed too much. Now, however, I like to experiment with all kinds of additions—fruit, jams, pesto and fancy pants cheese.

You name it.

This particular grilled cheese combines sweet apples with salty prosciutto and two kinds of melted cheese—creamy goat cheese and sharp cheddar.

Grownup Grilled Cheese: Apple, Prosciutto, Goat Cheese and Sharp Cheddar

2 slices Dave’s Killer Bread

2 slices sharp cheddar cheese

1-2 tablespoons goat cheese

1 apple, thinly sliced

2 pieces of thinly sliced prosciutto

1-2 teaspoons butter

Begin by lightly buttering the bread on one side of each slice. Spread the goat cheese on the unbuttered side of the bread and arrange the cheddar cheese, apple slices and prosciutto on the sandwich.

Cook each side of the sandwich in a frying pan set to medium-low heat until golden brown.

Advice: Don’t rush it. It takes time for the cheese to melt and the bread to get perfectly golden brown.
