Sparkling Basil Gimlet

October 1, 2012

If you are following along at home, you have a beautiful batch of Basil Simple Syrup.  Now, you may be a little hesitant to use it or just not know where to start.

Fear not.

I bring you a refreshing Sparking Basil Gimlet. Consider it Part Two in the Basil Syrup adventures. And this Part Two is seriously good—similar to how Austin Powers 2 (the one with Heather Graham) was way better than all of the others.

This just might be my new favorite cocktail. It’s easy to throw together, it tastes wonderfully fresh and the hint of sweetness combined with the tart lime is fantastic.

Sparkling Basil Gimlet

2 1.5 ounces shots of gin

Juice of 5 limes

4 tablespoons basil simple syrup

Splash of sparkling water

Ice

In a small container, whisk together the gin, lime juice and basil simple syrup. Add ice to two glasses and divide the gin mixture between them. Top with a splash of sparkling water and garnish with a lime slice and fresh basil.
