I realize that the title of the post makes a lot of promises. “The Best” and “Only” are mighty words to live up to. But, I wholeheartedly stand by this proclamation.
So, what makes this fruit salad anything other than a typical fruit salad? Only a couple of additions, really. And, you may be surprised that they are the simplest of simple additions.
Lime and dried cranberries.
You may be thinking that I’ve oversold this. Well, think again. Also, I’m not typically an over-seller. I like to under-sell and then have people pleasantly surprised with me and my creations.
Now, back to the best of all fruit salads.
Lime zest and juice add a tartness that intensifies the sweet flavor of the fruit. It’s crazy just how fantastic this small change makes a regular, boring fruit salad. The dried cranberries mix with the fruit juices and create a sweet almost syrupy coating on the fruit.
Better yet, you can use just about any combination of fruit. I just happened to have cantaloupe, pineapple, blueberries and raspberries. You could always add grapes or strawberries or mangoes. Really, just about anything goes with this little gem.
- 1 lime, zested and juiced
- Handful of dried cranberries
- Cantaloupe
- Pineapple
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Combine the lime zest and juice with the fruits and gently mix. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving.
- You can use almost any combination of fruit with this recipe. The lime and dried cranberries are the important part.
