Juicing Exploits: Take One

May 16, 2013

Recently and somewhat hastily, Aaron and I decided to give a juicer a try. That’s not to say we didn’t do our research. We both read the same Wirecutter review.

And you know what? I’m not sorry.

I think we all know and understand that juice is delicious. Making your own juice is ten-fold in the delicious department.

In the two weeks we’ve had our juicer, we’ve made some sort of juice concoction just about every day. It’s actually something that I look forward to in the day. It also helps me past the 3pm tireds.

We have been throwing just about everything in this little beast. Carrots, apples, oranges, beets, spinach, lemons, limes, ginger, mint, cantaloupe, honeydew—you name it. And every time, it chews it up perfectly and spits out the sweet juice.

We’re also learning what not to juice. Aaron’s celery and grapefruit combination was the worst ever. Just thinking about it makes my insides seize. But I think we could have seen that one coming.

For now, there’s not necessarily a rhyme or reason to our juices. It’s mostly a that-looks-good kind of process.

Tips:

  • A little ginger goes a long way. If you put in too much, it feels like you’re drinking fire.
  • Mint is almost always a good idea.
  • Save a carrot to run through at the end—it will pick up the hidden leftovers.

Now, onto the juicy goodness.

This juice consists of spinach, beets, carrots, ginger, lime and apple. You can see the amounts in the first picture. All I did for the juicing was cut everything up, so it would fit in the juicer.

Blamo–Juice City.
